Our Social Ministry team invites you to join us for the ELCA’s annual day of service — God’s Work. Our Hands. — on Sunday, September 7th. The focus of the day is living out the call to love and serve neighbors through acts of service. House of Prayer will participate via two congregational service projects right after our worship service: “Baking Bags” for Living Well Disability Services, and “Hygiene Kits” for ministries provided by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS-MN).
Living Well Disability Services is a non-profit that oversees 37 group homes in the metro area. Their mission is to provide services that transform the lives of people incapacitated by disabilities. Residents at the group homes enjoy group projects like cooking and baking, so the “Baking Bags” will contain a disposable cake pan, cake mix, can of frosting, icing, decorations (e.g., sprinkles), and candles.
The “Hygiene Kits” will be given to LSS-MN in support of their work with foster care and adoption. These kits will provide youth experiencing foster care with commonly needed basic hygiene items, dignity, and promote health. The kits include a reusable tote bag or shower caddy filled with a deodorant, full-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, along with a toothbrush and a full-sized tube of toothpaste.
Applications for Thrivent Action Cards will be submitted, but church members are invited and encouraged to donate any of the items that will go into either the “Baking Bags” or “Hygiene Kits.” If you have any questions, please contact Social Ministry chair, Deb S. God’s blessings for supporting these efforts!
