To Confirmation - Age Youth Parents

When a child or infant is baptized, the parents and godparents/sponsors of that child make a promise with these words:

“As you bring your child to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities: To live with them among God’s faithful people; bring them to the word of God and the holy supper; teach them the Lord’s prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments; place in their hands the holy scriptures; and nurture them in faith and prayer so that your child may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”

At House of Prayer we, as a congregation, take part in this same baptismal promise to assist with the support and training of these youth. The Confirmation years (Grades 6-8) are the time where we seek to work together with the youth and their families to fulfill these promises and prepare these young people to claim their Baptismal faith for themselves. Growing our faith as Christians is a life-long process and we want to help our youth begin this journey with a solid foundation. Under the guidance of the pastor, families, and other adult members these students will participate in worship, explore the basics of faith and life, and study God’s word. Claiming our Christian faith as our own and learning what it means to live out this faith daily in the world is one of the important responsibilities given to us by Christ!

An orientation session for this year’s Confirmation program will be held on Wednesday evening, October 6th at 6:15. This session is for students (both new and returning) and their parents, so please mark it on your calendar now. Confirmation instruction is open to young people from outside the congregation as well, so if you know a family, (relatives, neighbors, and friends) with young people in these school years, please invite them to take part in this program.
