Confirmation

To Confirmation – Age Youth Parents

When a child or infant is baptized, the parents and godparents/sponsors of that child make a promise with these words:

“As you bring your child to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities: To live with them among God’s faithful people; bring them to the word of God and the holy supper; teach them the Lord’s prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments; place in their hands the holy scriptures; and nurture them in faith and prayer so that your child may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”

At House of Prayer we, as a congregation, take part in this same baptismal promise to assist with the support and training of these youth. The Confirmation years are the time where we seek to work together with the youth and their families to fulfill these promises and prepare these young people to claim their Baptismal faith for themselves. Growing our faith as Christians is a life-long process and we want to help our youth begin this journey with a solid foundation. Under the guidance of the pastor, families, and other adult members these students will participate in worship, explore the basics of faith and life, and study God’s word. Claiming our Christian faith as our own and learning what it means to live out this faith daily in the world is one of the important responsibilities given to us by Christ!

2014-2015 Confirmation Classes

Confirmation will begin Wednesday evening September 17th, at 6:15. This will be opening information day. If you are entering 7th grade or higher and have not been confirmed, you are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you are of school age, you are encouraged to bring your parent or guardian as well. This year we will be exploring God’s stories from the Old and New Testaments to see what we can learn to guide us on our own life journeys. There will be time for difficult questions of faith, like why does God allow good and bad things to happen in the world. Please contact the office if you plan to participate. Letters with details about the September 17th confirmation class and class requirements will be sent out early in September.
